What’s the best way to become a better writer? Simple. Write. Tom Peters offers some practical tips on the skill of writing. It’s a neglected and watered-down skill these days. In the digital age, we sometimes allow our tweets, posts, and e-mails to become “off the cuff” and mundane; abbreviated without thought for their quality and lasting impression.
If you want to become better writer you must be the verb and write. Write consistently and write your passion. Write even when you don’t feel like writing or don’t feel inspired. Write and just don’t stop to pat yourself on the back. Write to read and read to write. For example, read great writers and you become a better writer, and reader, in the process.
Skill sets are important. You can have the highest IQ and multiple degrees, but if you can’t write effectively how will you share your thoughts, thoughts that will last beyond your life? Writing makes your precise and creates an automatic legacy to leave with your students, clients, friends, followers, and family.
Now you may have never written a book, but don’t worry. You can start a blog. Now. You can create the legacy and refine your writing skill in a matter of digital minutes. Pick your topical passion (not fruit), and write to your heart’s content. Make those words mean something and create a regular content calendar to help you plan your posts or topics. Sometimes I plan my content, yet often my content plans me! Since the wonders of creativity and the journeys good writing will take us are endless, the sky is your limit. And remember, one of the keys to good marketing is good writing.
Write.
