We all have the same amount: 24 hours in a day. Or to be more specific: 86,400 seconds every day.
Whether it’s a president of the United States, a soccer mom, a corporate CEO, a schoolteacher, or a small business owner, we all have exactly the same amount of time. Time is not partial to anyone, so we must honor and respect it. If you do not respect time, it will not reward you.
In many small businesses, as in life, how you use your time determines if you will succeed or fail.
Good time usage means success.
Bad time usage means failure.
Don’t forget this.
If I used my time poorly, this blog post would not exist! The discipline of blogging forces me to use my time wisely. Writing and blogging forces myself to take time by the hand and use it to my advantage.
Now, I am not saying that every minute of every day must be mapped out and accounted for. Time must be your servant, not your master. Training time as the servant takes practice. It can be done.
As a constant theme throughout my new book on small business marketing, I talk about marketing as a process and activity. Small business owners need time to work for them. Time is a benefit and product differentiator. Most small businesses don’t realize this. If you focus on products, pricing, distribution channels, and so forth, and forget to analyze how you use time, you will miss one of the key weapons for small business success.
