“Sell electrons, not atoms.”
Bill Myers
You’re reading electrons. Electrons brought you to this site. Electrons matter and they go beyond matter. The benefits of selling electrons versus atoms are significant.
I love the preceding quotation by author Bill Myers. It could not be said better. If you’re in the business of selling atoms you face limits–physical products in other words. They will always be with us because tangible is necessary when it comes to everyday life. Functionality and fashion merge on the field of necessity. However, when we speak of atoms, or information, or content, or ideas, or innovation, or aps, or websites, or e-books, …the list becomes infinite. You get the picture, but it also goes further.
More and more jobs are information based. The skill becomes the ability to take information and turn it into profit. Information and content placed within the right context allows both businesses and consumers to do one critical thing: make decisions–informed decisions. Those decisions make money. These decisions save money.
Take the preceding concepts to the marketing level it gets even better. The best marketing creates and communicates the purpose of digital electrons: content. If you can create the proper messaging and content that connects with your customers, and then make sure that content is easily found online, half the battle is won. The concept of search is a pure electron function. Electrons blended with language matches customer needs to your content. Your electrons. You can have the best atoms (products) in the world but if you cannot communicate with the right message, content within context, and draw targeted customers to your website, you are not electron empowered. Be empowered. Sell electrons.
Hint: you are still reading electrons…
