What good is a #1 Google page rank if your content is weak and fails to serve the needs of your reader?
Content is king. Relevant, fresh, current, and thoughtful content. There is no substitute. No matter what those SEO emails/companies may tell you about “letting us rocket you to the top of Google page rankings,” there is no substitute for daily or weekly fresh content to your site.
Instead of spending money on “SEO” shortcuts, invest in something more valuable: take the time to write good content.
For example, for months I delayed starting a blog. I kept putting it off thinking, I’ll get around to it. In April of 2010 I started my blog. I could not believe my analytical, metric, web-traffic eyes. Within 2 to 3 months my visitor traffic and page views increased threefold!
In sum, do the following before spending money on page ranks and “SEO Specials.” Try this first:
- Research 10 to 15 keywords that defines what your business is all about. Make sure those keywords are inserted in your HTML “Keywords=” line, with each word separated by a comma.
- Include those keywords naturally in your page content. Don’t force it in a mechanical manner. Write naturally buy focused on those keywords that make sense.
- Start a blog. Not a stand alone blog, but a blog integrated into your site. Search engines love the fresh blog content. Post 2 to 5 times a week if you can.
